Domain Name registration

In 1995 there were 330 million pages of information on the World Wide Web. How will people find your web site out there? The most important step in preparing for your web presence is selecting and registering an appropriate domain name. A good name will be easy to remember and related to your company name.

Domain names are registered with Internic, CIRA, or other registry. Your domain name must be unique and is yours exclusively as long as you maintain the registration.

Preliminary site design

How big should your site be? What should be included, excluded? What message should your site put across? How much should you budget to build your site and maintain it.

The preliminary design defines the scope of the web site. It lets the analyst provide you with a realistic cost and approach for developing the site. The design phase also allows involves you in the process and gives better feedback to the developer.

Design is 80% of the cost of site development. A proper preliminary design lays down the boundaries for the rest of the project to ensure your money and efforts are well spent.

Site development

The development phase includes the detailed site design and HTML programming. Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) is the programming language used to set up your site.

Once the scope has been defined and agreed upon, the developer must complete the detailed site design. All decisions on material going into the site, site layout, graphics, page formats, and content must be finalized. There are hundreds of decisions to be made at this time. The site will start to grow as a firm concept with most of the detail fleshed out.

Programming the HTML language for the site will follow closely along behind the design process. Custom graphics will be prepared and incorporated in the programming phase.

Your web site will be "hosted" by an Internet Service Provider (ISP), someone who lets you use their computer to interface with the Net.
